EXCITING NEW CASE STUDIES

There are so many exciting case studies to discover and learn from. Did you know, for instances, that Sweden’s The Right to Leave to Conduct a Business Operation Act guarantees that employees have the right to take leave of absence of up to 6 months to start their own company, safe in the knowledge that they can return to their job – or a similar one – after? Spotify, Skype, and Mojang (the company behind Minecraft) are all companies that were started thanks to this policy.

Another example comes from the MENA region. The region has the largest youth population in the world, but also the highest youth unemployment rates, often exceeding 25%. This is due to a stark mismatch between labour market demands and what educational institutions are teaching. The Education for Employment (EFE) initiative is tackling this skills gap issue head on through building local partnerships, international networks, labour market analysis, and training unemployed youth. Since 2006, EFE is now operational in 9 countries in the MENA region. It has connected more than 100,000 youth to the world of work, and 56% of the programme graduates are young women. They have a 73% placement rate for job-track graduate, and over 2,700 companies have hired EFE graduates.
